JOHN RONIEL AGUSTIN CANIMO (RON)
John Roniel Agustin Canimo, known as Ron Canimo founded the Bulacan State University Journalism Society (BulSU-JournSoc) in 2014. He was the first president of this foremost recognized organization in his college which pioneered activities such as: Off-Campus Project: Journalism Training for Secondary Students, Learning Beyond Materials: The Art and Technicality of writing and the 3rd Tinatagisan: College of Arts and Letters (CAL) Press Conference.
Canimo marks his name in Campus Journalism through Pacesetter, The Official Student Publication of Bulacan State University. He served as a staff writer and editor from years 2013-2016 in which he bagged several awards in school, provincial, regional and national press conferences. He was entitled to be the best feature and essay writer in his college years. Because of his remarkable contribution to campus journalism and numerous writing awards, he was hailed as the 2016 BulSU Outstanding University Journalist of the Year.
Aside from writing different journalistic articles and being a leader, Canimo also dedicated himself in voluntary service. He is an active member of Guiguinto Scholars Association (GSA), a non-profit youth organization in Bulacan that aims to empower youth and promote arts and culture of the province. GSA is a two-time awardee of Ten Accomplished Youth Organization of the Philippines (TAYO) which sheltered hundreds of youth who engaged themselves in volunteerism and nation building.
Canimo has the advocacy of "Writing against Suicide". He believes that pen can kill depression. Also, he promotes gender diversity and LGBT rights through his social media accounts and youth talks. He has several literary articles that aims to deepen the understanding of people in humanity. Canimo popularized the quote: "In this world of gifted child, be the one who gives."
Some of Canimo’s achievements are: Region 3 Awardee, Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) 2016; Three-time nominee, CAL Huwarang Mag-aaral ng Taon 2014-2016; Gawad Huwarang Kabataan 2016; Outstanding University Journalist of the Year 2016; Recipient of Gawad Pagpapahalaga sa Kawanggawa 2015; and Two-time Champion of Gawad Guintong Pluma Literary Festival 2014 and 2015.
